The theatre ...

The Acorn Community Theatre is now open in its "interim" form. Whilst we do not yet have our grand designs realised, our team of skilled volunteers has remodelled the building to create an intimate town centre venue.

Our interim Acorn Community Theatre currently offers a single storey town centre performing venue with 150 seats. It is equipped with a bar and kitchen and is fully wheelchair accessible. Entry is currently via The Crossing Church & Centre on Newcastle Street. This will remain the case until the completion of on-site residential construction in February 2007. From then on access will be from Queen Street.

We have already recieved a great deal of interest from local groups and individuals wishing to book the venue for events. If you are interested in booking the Acorn for an event or performance, please contact us to discuss your requirements. The theatre is run entirely by volunteers with a vast amount of experience in theatre and performing arts. Skilled artists and technicians are available at an extra cost should you wish to make use of them!

Whilst our interim Acorn Community Theatre is up and running, our efforts are also directed to securing funding for our final phases. Our plans for the next construction phase will create a theatre with many excellent features, including:
  • Designed in full DDA compliance in all parts of the theatre
  • Large foyer with bar facilities for theatre users
  • Single level ground floor access
  • Fully accessible first floor sound-proofed rehearsal room
  • 200 seat auditorium - retractable,flexible and comfortable
  • Large stage (26ftx15ft) with high proscenium arch
  • 4ft deep apron extendable to 10ft
  • Orchestra pit
  • Large wing space
  • Under stage storage
  • Workshop Space
  • Costume and scenery store
  • Full professional lighting and sound system
  • 1000 sq ft of fully accessible dressing rooms
