Community Theatre Limited is the project management company of The Acorn
Community Theatre Project. ACT is a social enterprise company limited by
guarantee and is also a registered charity. ACT was founded by three local
performing arts organisations: The Worksop Light Operatic Society, The Dukeries
Theatre Group and The Young Theatre Company. ACT comprises volunteer
representatives from these and other local arts organisations and interested
groups in and around Worksop, and we include amongst our members many teachers
and several arts professionals. As groups and individuals, we have come to work
together to spearhead an exciting project to create a superb 200 seat all-age
community theatre for entertainment, training and participation in the
performing and visual arts in the heart of Worksop, called The Acorn Community
Theatre. ACT feels most strongly that Worksop needs a town centre venue dedicated to the provision of performing and visual arts, giving groups and individuals in our local community far greater opportunities to create, access and participate in a wide range of arts events and activities in specially designed modern facilities. In addition to providing a facility for the participation of community groups and an interface with professional groups, The Acorn Community Theatre would also make a substantial contribution to Worksop town centre regeneration. This issue is one of Bassetlaw District Councils current Big Nine objectives. We are working together with Bassetlaw District Council and other local organisations to ensure that The Acorn Theatre successfully meets the needs of our community, and that the future of performing and visual arts in Worksop is protected. In developing and delivering exciting programmes of events and activities at the theatre, ACT intends to harness the proven wealth of arts expertise and experience of its member groups and individuals. In addition, it is seeking to build partnerships with other performing arts organisations from beyond Worksop & District and with Nottinghamshire County Arts to further widen opportunities at The Acorn CommunityTheatre. The combined input of local groups, external organisations and professional individuals, acts and companies will result in an exciting and diverse range of opportunities for our community to engage in the arts in many ways and on many levels. |
